Realizing that she cannot continue to pursue her dream of singing while taking care of the responsibilities at home, she decides to give it all up and seek a day job. Her best friend and piano player, MUJI, convinces her to work with him at the home of wealthy socialite CELESTE COLEMAN, widow of a media magnate. Allison reluctantly agrees to become the widow’s cook. Upon arriving at the Coleman household, Allison is shocked to discover that “old Mrs. Coleman” is actually young, beautiful and her former best friend, Celeste Cooper. A fight over a man broke the friends up years ago. Celeste is now one of the most important women in NYC, and she enjoys making Allison work for her. But when Allison discovers that Celeste is up to no good, she uses the information to blackmail her into pretending Allison is her guest, not her servant, and forces Celeste to help her stage a benefit Christmas concert to save a family shelter. Scrooge-like Celeste plots her own game of blackmail as she sets out to destroy Allison, who is quickly becoming the toast of the Upper East Side social scene.
